THE QUR’AN AS REVELATION
In the Quran, a religious Muslim hears the god’s voice reproaching and consoling, encouraging and guiding, promising eternal bliss and righteous mercy. While frightening the wicked with anger and endless pain. For Muslims, the Quran is the speech of ALLAH, which has entered human time to form history.
According to Muslim sources, the Angel Gabriel disclose himself to Prophet Muhammad in 610 CE while he was in a pious shelter in a cave on Mount Hira, outside mecca. It is said that in this first meeting, the Angel Gabriel pressed Muhammad so vehemently that he felt he was being suffocated. The Quran states that the angel then told:
“Recite in the name of your Lord who created, created man from a blood clot. Recite, for your Lord is most magnanimous – who taught by the pen; taught man that which he did not know. (Qur’an 96:1-5)”
The Quran is said to have been conveyed to Prophet Muhammad in two ways. Muslims consider that it was communicated by Angel Gabriel. These communications were told in little pieces; Particular verses, groups of verses, and entire chapters or surah over a period of 20 to 22 years.
For Muslims, Quran is not the only word that can be heard, recorded, or uttered. It is also the blessed pattern of which the recited and written Quran is only an earthly copy. Quran is in its original form and is permanently preserved by ALLAH. It is the promise by ALLAH with his humankind that he established with the children of Adam.
Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H) experienced a deep spiritual state, sweating on a cold winter day or shivering on a hot summer day, hearing voices like the ringing of a bell. These sounds changed themselves in his consciousness into human words, which he remembered and then recorded.
